This costume was chosen for the third year 'Designed Costume' project and the original sketch of Lord Groan by Odile Dicks-Mireaux was created for the BBC series of Gormenghast in 2000. After one initial session with the designer, the colours and fabrics had to be interpreted from the sketch.
Most fabrics for this costume were recycled from donations or second hand, with the dressing gown jacket made from dyed and patch-worked woollen coats found in charity shops. The trousers were screen printed and the cape was embellished with a velvet band that was burnt into and the detail painted with gold. The staff and crown were also created from scratch to complete the costume.
